WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY SAMSUNG AT CES

Remember the last time Samsung went more than a few days without launching a new phone? Yeah, neither do we so you’ll have to pardon us if we sound a bit skeptical here. When we got word that Samsung Mobile was holding their CES press conference at the ungodly hour of 7:30 A.M on the Day 2 of CES (otherwise known as Day 1 of being hungover), my curiosity was piqued. I mean, who the hell launches a new phone at 7:30 in the morning, halfway through a show? Not Samsung, it seems. We reached out...

NEW NOOK PRE-ORDERS TO SHIP

It looks like Barnes & Noble’s Nook is going to get off to a flying start in the e-reader business, so much so that the company has already begun telling new customers not to expect delivery on the device (which will be released soon) until the 2nd week of December. Customers who pre-ordered should expect shipment by the end of November, and if you’re placing a pre-order now, expect it to ship around December 11th or so. Looks like Amazon’s Kindle is up for a tough...

SUPER CHEAP ARCHOS

Archos has been on a real PMP tear as of late, releasing the Archos 2 Vision, 3 Vision, and the Clipper all in one pop back in August. The company's now launched yet another Vision model, the entry-level 1 Vision. This tiny little 4GB dude has a 1.5-inch LCD and supposedly gets about 20 hours of battery life per charge. No video support in this puppy, but the €30 (somewhere in the realm of $45) pricetag should temper some of your crushing disappointment over its lack of features. The Archos...

“DROID” MAY BE A SERIES

Based on specs coming out about the HTC Droid Desire, it may be that "Droid" represents not just a Motorola handset (which we previously knew as "Sholes"), but the name of Verizon's entire Android series. What's going on? Honestly, I'm a little bit confused. Why call a phone and a series by the same name when at least two manufacturers are involved? Really, this seems like a whole marketing mess. It's hard enough to keep individual HTC models straight, and to know the difference between...

WSJ CONFIRMS BARNES & NOBLE “NOOK” READER

According to the WSJ, the Barnes & Noble reader will be announced tomorrow at $259. The descriptions match our exclusive photos exactly. They found the device through a premature ad shown on the NYTimes website! Who scooped who here? Features of the Nook include a wireless connection to download books from the retailer's online e-bookstore and an e-paper display from E-Ink Corp. that is separate from the color controls. The only discrepancy we've found with our original story is that...
