Best Buy offering DROID pre-orders as of today

In the best sort of tradition, Best Buy Mobile has gone for a repeat of its Palm Pre offering and is offering a $299 phone, the Motorola DROID, in this case, at $199 thanks to the automation of a mail-in rebate you'd have to actually "mail in" if you were to purchase the handset straight from the carrier. Best Buy also seems to be the first place to offer pre-orders of the phone, so if you're worried about a sell out or just generally averse to affixing stamps to things, Best Buy appears to...

HTC Hero having a problems?

There's not exactly much in the way of official statements on the matter just yet, but it looks like support forums have been piling up with reports of text messaging problems on the HTC Hero over the past few weeks, and with no signs of a fix in sight. Apparently, the phone can send texts just fine, but runs into a little trouble when it comes to receiving 'em, with most folks reporting only intermittent problems, and at least some not receiving any at all. Interestingly, the problem seems to...

“Droid” May Be A Series

Based on specs coming out about the HTC Droid Desire, it may be that "Droid" represents not just a Motorola handset (which we previously knew as "Sholes"), but the name of Verizon's entire Android series. What's going on? Honestly, I'm a little bit confused. Why call a phone and a series by the same name when at least two manufacturers are involved? Really, this seems like a whole marketing mess. It's hard enough to keep individual HTC models straight, and to know the difference between...

Acer Liquid mixes Snapdragon and Android 1.6

Hey, what do you know, Acer just kicked out its first Android handset into the mystical kingdom of donuts and Snapdragons. Liquid, a rebranded (and slightly restyled) A1, brings a 800 x 480 WVGA capacitive touchscreen upon which you'll watch Android 1.6 ride that peppy Snapdragon processor. It's presumably tuned to 1GHz (or higher) and not 768MHz as listed on the eXpansys Germany spec-sheet a trick that'll make this the fastest Android handset on the planet. Of course, what would Android be...
