Nokia Closed a Factory in Romania, 2,200 Employees Out of Work

Our astute readers surely remember the events of the Nokia plant opened in 2008 with much controversy in the city of Cluj in Romania. It was a move dictated by incentives that would allow the Finnish brand to pay less taxes. At a distance of just three years, Nokia’s Romanian adventure seems to have already reached the conclusion, with the announcement of the closure of the factory in Cluj at the end of year, as part of the restructuring program initiated by the system of production companies.

Nokia is justified by explaining that the Asian factories have proved more efficient, also because of the proximity of suppliers of electronic components necessary for the production of mobile phones. As a result of the closure will be approximately 2,200 Nokia employees find themselves without jobs, despite the assurances of the leaders of society to find them other jobs. On the employment front, another 1,300 Nokia employees will soon be out of work. In this case the cuts relate to the Location & Commerce Division and offices in Germany and the United States.
