Nokia has launched a global campaign by challenging fans to get creative and compose a personal version of Nokia Tune historical melody. The new ringtones can be sent, listen and vote online. The melody is inspired by the Nokia Tune composition ‘Grand Vals’ the Spaniard Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909) and was introduced in 1994 as a ringtone with the Nokia 2100 series. Nokia Tune From that moment on, inserted into hundreds of millions of Nokia devices, has become one of the world’s most played music. It is estimated that Nokia Tune is heard over a billion times a day.
Nokia and AudioDraft, experts in the world of crowdsourcing music, fire up the challenge to compose a new ring tone, expressive, original and creative, but also unmistakably Nokia. Participants can compete both with the latest ringtones Nokia Tune, which with older ones and can also create musical pieces, sound and original arrangements. The ringing of a maximum of 30 seconds must be sent no later than October 2, 2011.
The five most voted ringtones, or who will win the largest number of ‘Like’, will qualify as finalists. The jury will select five other finalists in turn creating a shortlist of ten ring tones to choose the winner. The jury will be composed of some of the leading figures in the field of audio branding including Kai Bronner, one of the founders of the ‘Audio Branding Academy, Julian Treasure, known for his work at TED and author of’ Sound Business’, and Mark Dewings, Head Brand & Marketing Communications SoundCloud. Even Marko Ahtisaari, Nokia’s SVP of Design, will be one of the seven members of the jury.
The winner will be inserted in the ring selected models of Nokia’s product portfolio for 2012, for a total of about 100 million devices. It will also be available on Ovi Store and inserted in the Nokia Brand Book and the winner will receive a prize of $ 10,000. The next five finishers will see their own versions of the Nokia ringtone available on Ovi Store and will be awarded a prize of $ 1,000 each.
